Investigating the Impact of Climate Change on Civil Infrastructure: Adaptive Design Strategies forResilient Cities
Abstract
Climate change poses significant challenges to civil infrastructure, with increasing frequency and
severity of extreme weather events threatening the durability and functionality of cities' essential
systems. This paper investigates the impacts of climate change on civil infrastructure and
explores adaptive design strategies that can help build resilient cities. By reviewing existing
literature on the subject, the paper identifies key vulnerabilities in infrastructure systems such as
transportation, water, energy, and buildings. It also examines innovative adaptive strategies,
including climate-resilient materials, flexible design approaches, and the integration of green
infrastructure. The findings underscore the need for collaborative, interdisciplinary efforts to
develop sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems that can withstand the uncertainties of a
changing climate.
